Like Bubbles
emporal bubbles pop in and out of existence everywhere I look. Mine stir with the sheen of millions of memories, an iridescence of all I’ve been and will become. I remember little of anything as they glisten across this dream. My eyes lie elsewhere. So does my heart.
She lives close by, though further than I ever could reach. I see her bubble pop into existence as if just for me, and then slowly merge into the gloaming of the many. How dare they steal her image! How dare they dull her glow!
She bounces from here to there, a wiggly little thing, my heart lurching, fingers reaching, as if to hold her still. Her eyes are everywhere, but rarely fall on me.
Time runs differently for the girl who is my muse. She ages with the setting sun. Dies with the dusk. So many witnessed heartbreaks, yet I’d view them always if I could.
One day, when clouds cover the sky and the gloaming fails to lift, her bubble will burst, and all our time shall vanish like the second before the last. That is the day I’ll pop my own, if I haven’t already.
