6:03 am, First Crow
A single crow breaks the silence—
not a caw, but a cracking open,
a fracture in the skin of morning.
Stillness parts like wet paper.
Somewhere, a kitchen light blinks—
yellow, artificial, stubborn.
The trees, half-asleep, don their shadows
like silk kimonos shrugged over bare shoulders.
A puddle holds yesterday’s sky,
creased and inverted,
and a worm writhes into prayer.
The air smells of ash and unopened letters.
A girl on the rooftop
feeds clouds to the wind,
her breath stitched with lavender and sleep.
And the sun, late as always,
arrives without apology—
an old god rehearsing
his lines beneath his breath.
Layover, 2:11 PM
Between boarding calls,
a moth flickers against the window—
soft body meeting glass like a question
no one asked.
My suitcase holds
a dried marigold,
your old receipt folded into a square
with your name half-erased by rain.
Someone’s perfume—clove or cumin—
briefly resurrects the kitchen,
and I am suddenly
where we never lived.
Where did you go?
The socks left behind. The books
we never bought.
Our bed with its one bent leg.
You said: I don’t write poems, I just forget them slowly.
And then you painted your dream on the wall—
a garden where birds spoke in Morse
and never stopped singing.
I touch the page.
It doesn’t bleed. But it remembers.
