A SUPERB PAINTING AND TANKA BY HIKARI & A POEM BY GABRIELA MARIE MILTON – AN INTERPRETATION OF HIKARI’S PAINTING

My dear followers, Literary Revelations is thrilled to bring you today a superb piece of art and a tanka by Hikari, our Artist-in-Residence.

I also wrote a poem, my interpretation of Hikari’s painting.

Tanka in Japanese by Hikari:

日本語短歌: “青深く 寛き空向き 花道を
三叉槍持ち みずから光れ”

English translation:

“Facing the deep blue and wide sky, walk along the flower path, holding a trident which Vaisravana, who is the god of war, has, shining upon yourself.”

Nihongo tanka refers to a form of traditional Japanese poetry known as tanka. It’s a short, unrhymed poem consisting of 31 syllables, traditionally arranged in five lines with a 5-7-5-7-7 syllable pattern. Tanka is considered one of the oldest Japanese verse forms and is a type of waka, which broadly encompasses traditional Japanese poetry.
