BIO

Paul Callus is a retired teacher who lives in Malta, Europe. He has been active in the literary field for around 50 years. He writes poetry, short stories, and lyrics for songs, mostly in English, Maltese, and Italian. His work has been published in various anthologies, journals and online sites. He is an active member of several international poetry groups. He is also a translator and proofreader.

it-togħma tal-lavanda
f’kikkra tè

early morning –
the taste of lavender
in a cup of tea

mattina presto –
il sapore della lavanda
in una tazza di tè

Saħara

Fi sħana soffokanti
mistieden milqugħ
ġewwa tinda fid-deżert
offrut b’rispett
tè sħun appena magħmul
u l’id tal-ħbiberija.

Sahara

In suffocating heat
a guest welcomed
inside a desert tent
respectfully offered
freshly brewed tea and
the hand of friendship.

Nel caldo soffocante
un ospite accolto
in una tenda nel deserto
gli viene offerto con rispetto
tè appena fatto e
la mano dell’amicizia.
