A poem by Vaidehi Bhardwaj & A Reminder

Happy December, my dearest followers and subscribers. I hope you enjoy today’s post.

BIO

Vaidehi Bhardwaj (she/her) splits her time, reluctantly, between central Virginia and her native Los Angeles. Her work has been described as “beautiful, graceful, spare, lean, powerful,” and has appeared in the Virginia Literary Review, Visible Magazine, the NonBinary Review, and Topical Poetry. She is partial to Alice in Chains and good food of all kinds- you can find more of her creative and technical work at pointvee.wordpress.com.

cap. 3: celos

after gabriela marie milton
for g.j.p.w

to me you are the orange of a flamenco dress-
whirling, rippling,
always in motion.
solitary sun in the Spanish streets.

all the roses in the world to hide behind a window and watch you stroll through the maze of stalls and vendors,
soundless on the cobblestones.
it’s the surety of your steps, perhaps,
that makes my heart dance itself to pieces at your feet.

in the old world you were the king-
no, the king’s witty advisor! beloved, i see it now-
your taut spine, your proud shoulders,

flash of your smile glinting
like the mouth of a castanet.

Reminder

Literary Revelations is thrilled to let you know that in a few days we will release an album of poetry and paintings entitled Haiku and Tanka: Lull, Harmony, and Power in Japanese Art by Hikari and Gabriela Marie Milton.

About the album:

Experience the enchanting collaboration between Japanese artist Hikari and American poet Gabriela Marie Milton in Haiku and Tanka: Lull, Harmony and Power in Japanese Art. This stunning poetry and art album gracefully bridges Eastern and Western sensibilities, inviting readers on a vivid journey through tradition, perspective, and creative imagination.

Hikari’s masterful paintings immerse you in the splendor of Japanese art, each brushstroke echoing the beauty of cultural heritage and the depth of historical narrative. Her tanka, deeply rooted in Japanese traditions, transports readers to landscapes and moments of spiritual introspection.

In contrast, Gabriela Marie Milton’s evocative haiku offers a fresh, Western perspective—crafted in direct response to Hikari’s artwork. Her concise yet profound verses highlight the magnificence and subtlety captured on canvas, creating a dialogue between image and word that transcends borders. This unique approach allows readers to view the same artwork through two distinct cultural lenses, underscoring the rich possibilities of artistic perspectivism.

Haiku and Tanka: Lull, Harmony and Power in Japanese Art is more than a collection; it is a celebration of cross-cultural dialogue, artistic harmony, and the transformative power of words and images. The album dazzles with miraculous colors and powerful, lyrical language, making it a must-have for poetry lovers, art enthusiasts, and anyone yearning for inspiration.

Let poetry and art fill your soul—discover this splendid album and embrace the fusion of East and West. You won’t regret it.
