Canis Redivivus!
My dog sleeps like a beach towel drying in the sun
after a vibrant afternoon throwing his tennis ball
into the lake, scaring fish and snapping gnats.
When he’s had his fill of fecund water, he collapses
onto the sand, panting, tongue drooped. I cajole
him home, where I wash the souvenir smells from his fur.
It’s the best way to get some quiet time to work
until I hear the distinctive music of his tags shaking
and he yawns into my office where I proclaim,
“Behold! Bobo Redivivus!”
He returns my wag,
ready for dinner.
I was more popular when I drove a pickup
She asked me to drop her at the airport
and I was happy to repay the favor
until I discovered it also involved
moving her out of my apartment

That second poem has quite the unfortunate twist. Damn! Thanks for this.
My pleasure Steven.
Thanks, Steven. One never knows which way things will twist, only that they will twist.
I hear you Bartholomew!
🖤🤍
Merci Christine.
Canis Redivivus! reminds me of joyful days with my dog. The second one reflects on a memory too. I enjoyed both.
Thank you Mary. I am sure Bartholomew will be happy to read your comment.
Have a great week ahead.
Thank you, Mary. I’m glad I was able to tap some of your memories with my poems.
Thank you, Gabriela, for posting my work.
Congratulations on being featured here with your great poems Bart. ❤️
Both great! The pickup truck poem made me laugh. 👍🏻
Congratulations, Bart on the publication of two wonderful poems! The first one brought back fond memories of a beloved dog who loved to swim in the lake behind our house, but hated the swimming pool!
