The Wonderful Poetry of Stephen Page

Note: the featured picture shows the author by the sea. The poems were published in the order they were received.

Bio

Stephen Page is part Native American. When he is not writing, he is reading, playing his electric bass, working in the family office, spending time with his family, on a road trip, or meditating by the sea.

Week 13

Double space

Use a sketch pad

Block

Avoidance

Fear of falling into that white ravine

                                                            endlessly

                                                            hopelessly

                                                            dropping

Stop

Take measures

Your mind

          set

Attitude

Take your life by the

and grab hold

Week 14

Yevtushenko lives

        upon

San Diego State

    University

      Campus

Tomorrow I touch nuns

La Jolla is good for elderly

in the world of D.G. Wells

Ave Castillo’s blue door opens

To Cisneros for free

Dyslexic story tellers rock

children to sleep

with dreams of playing

on faraway swings

Eat the banana cream pies

while wearing circular sunglasses

The Poets eat cheesecake

Return the photos

Don’t steal the lines

This year’s issue published

On the last day

Oreo cookies splash

into large glasses of milk

      Drow elves live

         underground

while plotting evil deeds

They were

not was

When others speak

            drop a line

Heidi refuses story A

Howard’s end is his acceptance

Week 15

Invoking seasons

“Cool” without “How”

Keep some secrets

Use your wit

Leave something for those higher processes

That some of us still have

                        Story A

                                    Story A?

Molly shyly mumbles

“Where is story A?”

Week 16

Stereotypes

ride with names

Prolific is not always

a passenger with art

Write them from the saddle

Time is money

Rewriting is a reliable guide

Garbage rides alone

The linear breakup

                                    of the trail

owes itself

                        to movie houses

                                                            alongside the way

Beetles crawl on rocks

Post-post Modernism

is another route

                                    Now the road of intellectuals

                                    faraway

Voices carry from                        hills

When spoken LOUD enough

Discipline keeps you riding

Thoughts are seeds

Questions the seedlings

Your words fertilize

Plant the answers

            along the way

for others to read and reap

Week 1

Twentieth Century art

has broken down doors

smashed windows

and ripped down curtains

to let the light

touch the darkness

to allow the wind

to sweep away the dust

Kings

Religions

Repressive societies

Patriarchal copies of others

Unquestionable order

Houses long locked up

Neglected by constraint

Now they are open

Questions are allowed

Are they right?

Is there a god?

Why?

Your world

your truth

Boundaries stretched farther

and farther

away

Travel across oceans of the mind

Pages of white paper

Are continents to explore
