A reading from Cindy Georgakas’ book Celebrating Poetry

My dear readers,

Here is a poem from from Cindy Georgakas’ book Celebrating Poetry in my reading.

The poem is entitled “Today’s Word in History.”

Have a good evening/morning. It is a very wise and beautiful poem. I am reluctant to post the video on IG or X. If you watch the video you will know why. Perhaps I am exaggerating.

Tell me a story where history
doesn’t repeat itself.

It’s no mystery, life’s atrocities show up
when there’s no human decency.

Lies are valued over honesty and integrity
and the wounds of war scar our insides.
Devoid and scalded leaving no moral compass,
with a pass, to twist the knife.

Bots and brains left to tick tock, where
nobody’s home and google has
replaced,

archives carved in stone.
My once strong bones are brittle overnight.

Tell me a story where the villain loses and gets sent off to an island. Wrongs get righted and peace wins out.

Everyone is free to live their lives as they please.
Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you.

Was there ever such a time or will there ever be?
I’m afraid history repeats itself time and again on this earthly plain, too blind to see.
