Poetry

Harmony

raw harmony
splits the skies
like lightning
the music of the spheres

Silent

I see you
But I can’t hear you
In the darkness.
Your lips move
But no words spill out.
My heart is silent
And can’t respond.

Nobody’s Blameless

I was born in the aftermath of World War II,
Korea, and the First Indochina War.
Vietnam rumbled and then erupted
Into full-blown conflict.
Cuba fell in a wave of violence
And self-righteous pomposity,
Threatening higher powers.
Krushchev promised nuclear holocaust
Against the West,
Solidifying the icy wall of the Cold War.
Berlin split into opposing ideologies,
Divided by concrete barriers.
College campuses amplified the noise,
Demanding peace that never existed.
Demanding justice and humanity
That never existed.
Demanding a better world
That never existed.
Peace, Love, Humanity, Justice, Equality.
Beautiful words that paint lovely pictures
Of a world that never existed.
Nobody’s blameless in this world
Of chaos, unhappiness, and poverty of spirit.
We all created it.
We all project our anxieties, doubts, and fears
Onto the world canvas.
We are the painters of this ugly mural.

Ancient Voices: Poems About Ancient Egypt by Dawn Pisturino

Post for Literary Revelations Journal

On May 1, 2025, Dawn Pisturino released her fifth poetry collection, Ancient Voices: Poems About Ancient Egypt, on Amazon. The book achieved #1 Amazon New Release status in African Poetry and History of Egypt on pre-order. Following its release, the collection regained #1 Amazon New Release status in African Poetry and has consistently performed well, particularly in the categories of History of North Africa and History of Egypt.

Why Ancient Egypt?

The author did not plan to write a book about Ancient Egypt. She had written a poem retelling an Ancient Egyptian folktale about Isis and Ra for a poetry anthology, but it was rejected. Not knowing what to do with the poem, she decided to write a book of poetry about Ancient Egypt.

Dedication

“These original poems were inspired by my deep love and fascination for the rich history, culture, and spirituality of Ancient Egypt. If you love this ancient civilization as much as I do, these poems are dedicated to you. Dawn Pisturino”

Amazon Blurb

“The Ancient Egyptians loved life and celebrated it with joy. Their deepest desire was to live an honorable life and achieve immortality in the afterlife, where they could exist in perfect harmony with the cosmic order and never experience pain, suffering, and hardship again. These original poems by Dawn Pisturino reflect the hopes and dreams of people who were not much different from us. They worked, loved, raised families, worshipped their gods, honored the dead, enjoyed festivals and celebrations, imbibed beer and wine, danced, sang, and played, aspired to better themselves, and appreciated the beauty and wonder of nature. Take a journey back in time to explore the minds and hearts of the Ancient Egyptians.”

A Poem from the Book

The Lover’s Lament – A Ghazal

Why are the desert winds scented with your perfume?
Why do Nut’s stars spell out your name?

My heart sings the praises of your beauty, crying in the night
When your father takes you up the Nile to Memphis.

Come back to me, lover, and leave me no more!
When I call your name, come back!

Why does the moon disappear from the sky?
Why does the sun shine dully on the sand?

My heart yearns to touch you in the soft moonlight.
My heart longs to dally in the bright sunlight.

Come back to me, lover, and leave me no more!
When I call your name, come back!

Why do your eyes attract me so?
Why do your lips invite me to a kiss?

My hands explore the contours of your form,
And I want to lie with you in the coolness of the night.

Come back to me, lover, and leave me no more!
When I call your name, come back!

  1. Tremendous work and exquisitely poignant poetry in all fashions !!!! Will have to get and savor for the summer !!! Thank you, Dawn <3 and happy summer to you !!! 😀

  2. Thought provoking poetry by Dawn. Nobody’s Blameless is, on the whole, true. Very few people don’t desire more of everything and are prepared to give up wants for others needs.

  3. This is a great post. Dawn’s poems are beautiful and I thought “Ancient Voices: Poems About Ancient Egypt” was a delightful and interesting poetry book. I felt she captured the culture and the spirit of the time very well. I learned about the various deities and being a curious person I looked up more about them. I bought and read the hardback version.

  4. Are the comments turned off? Thank you again, Gabriela, for publishing my poems. I left a comment earlier, but it never showed up. Other people have told me the same thing. Have a great day!
