Bio:
Lauren Marie is a writer from SC shedding light on the darkest moments of human fragility. Her poetry traces the course of pain through healing and all the mess in between. She tends to lean into duality and nature’s hushed truths.
Candle Burning
I left every light on
Wrestling with the night
Afraid of the dark
Defeated
I unhinged the latch to the cage
That confined my thoughts
Beneath the moon’s glow
Barefoot
I walked into the darkness
I carried sticks and stones
Of the words meant to break me
I arranged them
Like an altar
Then exhaled a raging fire
How often was I their lantern
Left cold, a coal of ash
I left the forest still weeping
A candle burning
I light now only for myself
After the Rain
I wilted like a flower kneeling for water
Only to reclaim my own roots
When the drought persisted
The ground beneath me
Became my refuge
My intuition, I had abandoned
Now a guarded, steady sooth
Whatever storm tries to tame me
Let the wind remove
