Antonia Wang is a bilingual poet, nature enthusiast, and yogi from the Dominican Republic. She has written several poetry collections in English and Spanish, including her most recent work titled “Taste of Salt.” Antonia’s poetry is recognized for its vibrant imagery and thoughtful exploration of themes such as love, loss, and personal growth. Her works have been featured in various literary publications and anthologies. Forward

Why do I have you, subtle stain on my ruffled sleeve,
stones dragged by my skirt of endless anguish—
sighs that do not shift, backward or toward infinity,
space filled with excess air we do not share?

Why do I stare at you when I don’t remember you,
if the strokes of your polished eyebrows blend with winter,
If I lose myself at the crossroads of your outstretched arms
(reaching inward, never toward me)?

Why would I tell you about this irreverent oblivion
that trenches and limps, stacking lives in the keeping room,
where you wait for me, seated, as though I were to appear—
as if the firm hand of kindness had not thrust me,
furiously and against my will, forward?

Portrait of a Missing Kiss

In your nymphalid silhouette, organza wings,
traced with dry crayon, quiver before your gaze.
Sunken canyons of night slumber in your eyes,
captured and resigned. On your lips, silence falters,
and within their creases, orchids thrive. Thoughts
dissolve, inadequate, in the caldera of your mouth.
Blue jays burst through the locked gate of your throat,
and madness springs, bewildered, in melodic notes.
