Breaking Open 

Stars shine bright on my broken pieces, 
that once were whole.
Light filters through a jaded lens, 
I was too blind to see. 
Naïve vision of yesteryear 
burned my embers bright. 
Now, I stand still in the night, 
where darkness seeps through open wounds 
and the milk of the moon, 
rocks me tenderly, 
dripping in white honey.

Set Me Free 

Finding shelter 
In a world of jagged edges,
ruthless hearts, and angry stares,
takes courage.

Stand in your bravery,
and shape the world 
around you.
Grow armor of love.

Soften your hard shell 
and watch those bullies
surrender one by one.
Open up the sky and

drench me 
with your love.

Rain on me until 
I’m soaked like a sponge. 

Let me water you.
Together, we float in 
ecstasy out to sea.
Our cup runneth over

face to face 
with tears shed,
in a tender embrace.
Rain on me:

Set me free!

The Night of Candlelight and Wine by Gabriela Marie Milton & Francisco Bravo Cabrera

You wrap around my wrist a rose with thorns
I tie your eyes with scents of mandarins
your heartbeats spiral red Cabo de Palos winds
your touches gallop on my wildest dreams
Valencia, garden where the lovers meet
where statues chant the prayers of the hours
and where some other winds,
perhaps the winds of Lent, not ours
will lift Mediterranean sands so we can’t see,
sighs of the future that the two of us could be …

Some hands clap bulerías por soleá 
you and I, we move to the same rhythm
your eyes undress a Carthaginian fountain 
my hands undress a shadow, is that you? 

We die in love as we had died before
in photographs that are not ours
in port of Cartagena where we’ve never met
blindfolded looking for each other 
like lovers in the nights of carnival
we speak in languages not yet discovered

This is the night of candlelight and wine
the night of gaps between the piccolos and tubas 
you touch me with a branch of olives
I mark your skin with colored glass
until the morning rises from the sea

Valencia, look what’s happening to people like us

PTSD

The feeling lingered that somehow,
I had been touched by evil.
Dirt and ugliness clung to me
Like an oil smudge that
Soap and water couldn’t wash away.
Dread and horror haunted my sleep,
And I woke up shaking,
Unable to face the sun-cleansed day.
I shrank into a corner,
Covered my head with my arms,
And cried.
My heart broke with each agonizing tear.
Where are you? I wondered.
Why aren’t you here?
My faith had been shattered.
I didn’t know what to say.
I tried to pray, but darkness assailed me.
My brain clouded over,
My eyes refused to see.
The sound of your voice would have comforted me,
But you weren’t there.
I needed you.
I gathered my strength and scooped up my keys.
Drawn to the purifying beacon of your light,
I drove down the dusty backroads.
Sunlight pierced my eyes,
Cracking the armor of blackness.
A pinhole of light radiated through my chest.
My soul began to breathe again.
I felt you near, and when I saw you,
Leaning over the fence,
Chatting with a neighbor,
I rejoiced in the simple sturdiness of your nature.
My heart opened up with renewed hope.
When you saw me, you beamed with delight,
And beckoned me to come.
I ran into your arms and found new life.

Literary Revelations Presents: The Renaissance Period -A quick view of its most famous painters

Happy weekend to my lovely followers. Before I go back to poetry a quick view at the most renown painters of the Renaissance period. I hope you enjoy.

The Renaissance, spanning roughly from the 14th to the 17th century, was a period of great artistic flourishing in Europe, particularly in Italy. Here are some of the most famous Renaissance painters:

  1. Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519):
    • Notable Works: “Mona Lisa,” “The Last Supper,” “Vitruvian Man”
    • Known for his incredible versatility, he was also a scientist, engineer, and architect.
  2. Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564):
    • Notable Works: The Sistine Chapel ceiling, “The Creation of Adam,” “David” (sculpture)
    • Although primarily known for sculpture, his frescoes in the Sistine Chapel are iconic.
  3. Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio) (1483-1520):
    • Notable Works: “The School of Athens,” “Sistine Madonna”
    • Famous for his clear, graceful style and his mastery of perspective.
  4. Titian (Tiziano Vecellio) (c. 1488-1576):
    • Notable Works: “Assumption of the Virgin,” “Venus of Urbino”
    • Known for his use of color and the dramatic quality of his paintings, he was a key figure in the Venetian school.
  5. Sandro Botticelli (c. 1445-1510):
    • Notable Works: “The Birth of Venus,” “Primavera”
    • His works often reflect the humanistic and Neoplatonic philosophies of the time.
  6. Caravaggio (1571-1610):
    • Notable Works: “The Calling of St. Matthew,” “Ecstasy of Saint Teresa”

  7. Giotto di Bondone (c. 1267-1337):

  8. Donatello (c. 1386-1466):

    • While primarily a sculptor, his influence on the visual arts of the Renaissance was profound.
  9. Dürer, Albrecht (1471-1528):

  10. Masaccio (1401-1428):

Take me to the beach
where sand warms our feet
and waves caress our toes.

Take me at sunset
when honey-colored light
bathes our skin.

while we share thoughts,

Take me to our home,
a comfortable, happy,
relaxing haven.

Take me in your arms,
powerful and strong
guarding me from harm.

Take me to our room
a sanctuary where we
